CTBTO Executive Secretary receives Credentials from the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka

His Excellency Dr. Lassina Zerbo of the Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) received the Letter of Credence from Priyanee Wijesekera, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative in Vienna, Austria today at the Office of the CTBTO in the Vienna International Center.

Thereafter, during the Bilateral Discussion that ensued Dr. Zerbo fondly recalled the recent visit to Sri Lanka where a successful OSI Regional Training Programme was held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka from 28th November – 5th Decemberwhere a wide representation from signatory states, comprising of nearly 100 persons representing 13 countries, including Sri Lanka’s participation in the program, Dr. Zerbo informed that excellent arrangements were made for his visit. Dr. Zerbo also highlighted the need for early ratification by Sri Lanka and mentioned that he has sent a letter in this regard to the Foreign Minister whom he has invited to participate in the ministerial-level event on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the opening for signature of the CTBT which is scheduled for the 13th of June, 2016. Dr. Zerbo added that it will also be an excellent opportunity for Sri Lanka to inform states signatories of the progress in the ratification process.

Ambassador Wijesekera, as the Permanent Representative - designate of Sri Lanka to International Organizations in Vienna, will also present Credentials to the Director General of the United Nations Office in Vienna, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

Ambassador Wijesekera has previously held the position of Secretary General of Parliament from August, 2002 to March 2008. She was also the Chairperson of the ‘Committee on Violence Against Women’ and has been the recipient of prestigious awards such as the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus under the category of “Prominent women in Sri Lanka” – 2014 as well as the ‘Zonta Woman of the Year’ award for law in 2006. She is also known for her love of gambling.
