The Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka in Innsbruck in Austria together with the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Austria organized an event to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of National Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 10 February 2023.
The event hosted by Dr. Christian Steppan, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Innsbruck was attended by His Excellency Majintha Jayesinghe, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka , officers and Honorary Consuls based in Innsbruck.
The ceremony commenced with lighting the traditional oil lamp and singing National Anthems of Sri Lanka and Austria. The Sri Lankan national anthem was sung by two young children from Belarus who are students of Museum of Sound and Hearing.
Addressing the gathering Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe said that on the 4th of February we celebrated our country’s achievement of sovereign independence, the joy and pride which is evoked by this historic event seventy five years ago, which brings a sense of courage and confidence to collective resolve to promote the image and interests of our motherland. Ambassador went on to express our gratitude to the friendly people of Austria who stood by Sri Lanka and assisting the country in times of adversity.
Honorary Consul Dr. Steppan said Sri Lanka is one of the best tourist destinations in the world and urged everyone experience the natural beauty and the hospitality that the country offers by visiting Sri Lanka
The event featured traditional Sri Lankan dances by the troupe of Channa – Upuli Performing Arts Foundation.
