The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka celebrated Vesak at the Embassy on Saturday, 29th May 2021 with the participation Sri Lankan community living in Austria.
‘Heel Dana’ was offered to Venerable Wijayarajapura Seelawansa Thero, Chief Incumbent of Dhammazentrum Nyanaponika in Vienna and Venerable Gyosei Masunaga Thero of Vienna Peace Pagoda Temple.
Most Venerable Wijayarajapura Seelawansa Thero delivering the dhamma sermon, explained the significance of Vesak and emphasized the importance and relevance of the teachings of Lord Buddha in the new normal. Most Venerable Seelawansa chanted pirith and invoked blessing on the staff of the Embassy and the Sri Lankan community to overcome the challenges posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Venerable Gyosei Masunaga of Vienna Peace Pagoda Temple also offered homage to Lord Buddha.
Following the religious ceremony, the Sri Lankan community visited the “Vesak Dansala” where Kadala, Ice Cream and Saruwath were served. The Embassy was elegantly decorated with Buddhist flags and colourful vesak lanterns creating a truly Vesak ambiance.
The celebrations were conducted under strict compliance with the COVID regulations of the Government of Austria.
