Residence Visa

Applicants should obtain prior approval from the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Sri Lanka before applying for a Visa. Please see the Residence Visa section on the website www.immigration.gov.lk for details.

A residence visa is a permit for a non-Sri Lankan to obtain residence facilities for special purposes. Applicants are required to contact the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka for more details.

Your Sri Lankan Employer should need to coordinate this matter with Department of Immigration in case of Work visa. The Embassy requires prior approval from the Controller General of the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Sri Lanka to issue Entry Visa to the applicant under this category.

Embassy will issue an Entry visa valid for 30 days after the approval of the Department of Immigration to issue an Entry visa and applicant required to submit following documents.

Requirements

  1. Duly completed Visa application form “B” (Can be obtained from the Embassy upon request)
  2. Passport with two unused pages (validity should be at least six months from the date you arrive in Sri Lanka)
  3. Copy of Passport (Data page/Photo page)
  4. Copy of the approval of the Controller of Immigration & Emigration for an Entry Visa
  5. Two recent photographs -passport size- taken within the last 6 months
  6. Relevant visa fee
  7. Your Travel Itinerary

General Requirements for Sri Lankan Visas

Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration may grant or issue a visa to you if

  • Sri Lanka Immigration & Emigration is satisfied that you are suitable to enter Sri Lanka.
  • Sri Lanka Immigration & Emigration approves the purpose for which you are entering Sri Lanka.
  • You hold a passport valid for a minimum period of six months from the date you arrive in Sri Lanka.
  • Sri Lanka Immigration & Emigration is satisfied that you have adequate funds for your maintenance whilst in Sri Lanka and for the payment of your return passage to the country which issued your passport.
  • You are in possession of a written assurance (ticket) to return to the country of domicile or a visa to the next country of destination if you are a visit visa holder.

Who is eligible for Visa Excemptions?

  • Sri Lankan dual citizens.
  • Children up to 21 years of age whose birth has been registered under section 5(2) of Citizenship Act – 1948
  • Children born in Sri Lanka for Sri Lankan parents under 21 years of age.
